Our First Volleyball…

It came in the mail today. A “Super Touch” Molten Volleyball that you’ll see at tournaments throughout the year. It’s the first piece of equipment legitimately owned by our little start-up club.

So of course, it’s a Volleyball.

It should be first.

I’ve seen what happens when a kid gets hooked on this sport and starts playing with a ball like this every day. Serving it back and forth across the yard. Setting it and practicing passes against the side wall of our house. Hitting it powerfully against the brick. Developing her strength, skill, ballhandling, and confidence.

It’s never just a ball.

It’s an opportunity. Some players receive it, while others bump or pass. Some players set it, getting it to just the right place for an aggressive and powerful teammate. Other players fly in and hit the ball.

And it’s never just a ball.

It’s momentum. Speed. Power. Timing. Spin. Lift. Arch. Aim.

It’s shared. Pass. Set. Volley. Score.

It’s adventure. Dive. Spike. Chase. Bump.

It’s powerful. Sometimes it’s best to hit it full-force, and sometimes you just get out of the way and let it out.

When the season starts, we’ll have uniforms, schedules, opponents, facilities, budgets, referees, and rank points.

When the OVR “offer date” arrives on July 7th, we will send out offers to some wonderful players and their families. When tournaments post on the USAV site, we will register our teams and start making travel plans, looking forward to battling other 18U and 16U teams from North Canton to Columbus and back again.

But for now, we’ve got everything that a group of players who love this game would ever need.

We have our first volleyball.
